Mahesh Kumar
Originally from South India, Kerala, I am a professional Illustrator currently working with Qatar Museums. Art has been a part of my life since childhood, and it has always been a way for me to explore the world. Over the years, I have experimented with many different forms and mediums, including oil, acrylics, pastels, and pencil, but watercolor remains my true passion.
Because I am a self-taught artist, I don’t feel bound by the traditional “rules” of art. I prefer to create without limitations, allowing my work to be as expressive as possible. When I paint, I don’t feel the need to replicate the literal colors of a subject. Instead, I choose my palette based on the mood and emotions that the subject inspires in me.
I have been fortunate to have my work recognized with several awards in both Qatar and India. Some highlights include winning the World Environment Day painting contest in 2012 and 2013, as well as the Katara Dhow Festival painting competition in 2016, 2017, 2020, and 2022. I was also honored to receive the fourth prize from the International Watercolor Society in Moscow, Russia.
Beyond competitions, I have held various exhibitions in both Qatar and India, and I am proud to be an active member of the Visual Arts Forum India (Doha) and International Artists Doha.
